Who we are

We are a team of motivated engineers and scientists with strong expertise in photonics, electronics, and signal processing for sensing and communications. With solid roots in academia, we bring extensive experience in R&D activities having contributed in the past with ideas, development work and technical management roles to the update of the research agenda of our labs and the accomplishment of ambitious goals in numerous EU projects. Since 2016 we are with Optagon Photonics with the ambition to downstream our expertise to the market, build a robust portfolio of services and products, and establish our company as a high-tech SME in the photonics sector.

Key Team Members

Panos Groumas holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). In 2016 Panos co-founded Optagon Photonics. Since 2025 he serves as our managing director (CEO equivalent) leading the service provision and product development activities of the company.

Nikolaos Baxevanakis holds a Diploma (MEng equivalent) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). Nikolaos is with Optagon Photonics since 2021, serving as our analog electronics expert and leading the corresponding activities of the company.

Dimitrios Gounaridis holds a degree and a Master of Science degree in Physics from the National Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and the NTUA respectively. Dimitrios is with Optagon Photonics since 2025, serving as our digital electronics expert and leading the corresponding activities of the company.

Christos Kouloumentas holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). In 2016 Christos co-founded Optagon Photonics and served as our managing director (CEO equivalent) from 2016 till 2025. He has ever since the key role of the Scientific and Technical Advisor for the company.
